With all the hoop-la lately about paint and wine parties, what should you do if you feel you have no artistic ability and can’t paint?

The way I see it, you have only two options: you can flat out decide you’re not going to try or you can try painting and see how it turns blue-abstract out.  The very act of trying may surprise you with displaying hidden talent or may simply provide an hour of diversion.

There are several suggestions on how to paint.  One is just to play with color and brush it anywhere on the canvas.  This may help release frustration or just be a fun outlet.  Another suggestion-if you want a representational picture- is to break your subject matter into shapes and start to put those basic shapes on the canvas; connect the shapes and begin to see your image.  Having an instructor give step by step instructions can also aid in first attempts.  The key is to take a risk and try painting even when you think you can’t do it.

Art is inside each of us and is a persistent house guestBirds on a wire 1.  If you refuse to let it out in some creative endeavor, you run the risk of stagnation, half-living, and possible internal rebellion. Picasso said, “Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life”.  So even if you think you can’t paint, try it.  Be surprised, enjoy an hour out of your comfort zone.

What do you do for creativity?

How do you handle the peer pressure of trying something new?

I’d love to hear from you.
